Youth Driving Scientific Frontiers at IRSchool
From 30 June to 9 July, 2026, MILSET Vostok successfully hosted the 16th International Research School (IRSchool) at the Sakha Junior Academy of Sciences near Yakutsk, bringing together young talents and experts for an intensive scientific programme in Eastern Siberia.
Over ten days, participants collaborated on ten express research projects, tackling real‑world scientific challenges across diverse disciplines. The outcomes exceeded expectations, with each project earning strong praise from experts and peers alike.
Several teams achieved particularly striking results. The palaeontology group uncovered ancient animal bones, estimated to be tens of thousands of years old, offering valuable insights into the region’s prehistoric environment. Meanwhile, the space communications team designed and built antennas from scratch, successfully receiving satellite signals — a testament to their technical creativity and rapid problem‑solving skills.
The genetics project also produced noteworthy findings. Participants analysed the genome of the endemic Yakut crucian carp and identified genetic traces of invasive species, a discovery that may inform future biodiversity conservation efforts in the region.
Once again, the International Research School demonstrated the power of hands‑on learning, international collaboration, and scientific inquiry. By combining research, innovation, and teamwork, the programme provided participants with an exceptional opportunity to experience science beyond the classroom and contribute to meaningful discoveries.
