JOSE stands for Journal on Science Engagement. It is MILSET’s publication platform dedicated to sharing knowledge, experiences, and evidence on how science engagement initiatives create impact for youth and society.

The journal gathers contributions from educators, researchers, mentors, event organisers, institutions, and members of the MILSET network, highlighting projects and methodologies that promote scientific culture, STEAM learning, and meaningful participation in science and technology.

In simple terms: JOSE documents “what works” in science engagement—how we inspire youth, how we build skills, and how events and programmes translate into long-term educational and social value.

Why JOSE matters

MILSET works worldwide to inspire young people through science and technology. JOSE strengthens that mission by turning experience into shared knowledge: it helps the community learn, improve, and scale proven approaches.

  • Impact & credibility: documents results and outcomes that support partnerships, grants, and institutional collaboration.
  • Knowledge sharing: enables regions and members to exchange practices, tools, and models that can be replicated.
  • Continuous improvement: lessons learned from events and programmes become references for future editions and new initiatives.
What JOSE publishes

JOSE welcomes different types of contributions. Depending on the issue, publications may include:

  • Research and academic articles related to science engagement, STEAM education, and youth development.
  • Case studies showing programmes, events, and initiatives with measurable outcomes and clear methodology.
  • Best practices & frameworks for organising science fairs, workshops, congresses, mentoring processes, and evaluation models.
  • Insights and perspectives from leaders, educators, and partners about trends, challenges, and opportunities in science engagement.
  • Special issues dedicated to milestones, regional initiatives, or thematic priorities aligned with MILSET’s mission.
Who JOSE is for

JOSE is designed for everyone involved in science engagement—both inside and outside the MILSET network:

  • Students and young researchers who want to understand the broader impact of science activities.
  • Educators, mentors, and organisers seeking proven methods for inspiring youth and improving programme quality.
  • Universities and research institutions interested in outreach, citizen science, and science communication.
  • Partners and sponsors looking for documented impact and evidence-based collaboration opportunities.
How to contribute

Contributions typically follow a submission and review process coordinated by MILSET’s editorial team. Authors may be invited through calls for papers or thematic issues, and submissions may include research articles, case studies, or structured reports.

When preparing a contribution, it is recommended to clearly describe:

  • Context: where the initiative takes place and who it serves.
  • Methodology: what was done, how it was implemented, and why.
  • Results: outputs, outcomes, lessons learned, and future improvements.
  • Impact: how the initiative influenced participants, institutions, or communities.
