Nigeria’s Science Festival – A Journey of Dedication

The grand finale of the National Festival of School Science, jointly hosted with Stemite Zone Fair as Stemite‑NAFESS, took place in Lagos last November. This edition stood out not only for the calibre of projects presented but for the extraordinary resilience of participants who overcame daunting conditions to attend.

Nigeria’s vast geography and uneven transport links meant that many finalists undertook journeys lasting two to three days to reach the venue. For young students and their supervisors, the experience demanded stamina, patience, and remarkable dedication. Yet their determination to showcase their work and represent their schools never faltered, turning the challenge of travel into a story of perseverance.

To ease the burden, organisers introduced a two‑tier selection process, ensuring that only the most promising projects advanced to the finale. Even so, the commitment required to attend remained considerable. That students pressed forward despite these obstacles speaks volumes about their passion for science and innovation, and their willingness to go the extra mile—literally and figuratively—to share their ideas.
