IGO 2026: A Platform for Global Innovation
The International Greenwich Olympiad (IGO) 2026 has once again proven itself as more than a competition—it is a global stage for youth innovation, cultural exchange, and organisational excellence. Hosted by North London Grammar School, the Olympiad welcomed 362 finalists from 53 countries, selected from over 1,000 applicants worldwide, all united by a shared commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
From the Opening Ceremony, the event’s organisation shone through. Gillian Erdil, Senior Deputy Head of North London Grammar School, set the tone by emphasising empowerment and collaboration, while dignitaries including Councillor Chewe Munkonge, Lord Mayor of Oxford, and Advisory Board Member Philippe J. Warren reinforced the Olympiad’s credibility as a hub for global dialogue.
The exhibition and judging day at Queen Mary University of London was a logistical triumph. With 538 projects assessed by 538 judges, the Olympiad balanced scale with fairness, inclusivity, and quality. Judges praised both the seamless organisation and the rising calibre of student work, cementing IGO’s reputation as a benchmark for youth‑led research.
Beyond competition, the Olympiad’s cultural and networking programme reflected its holistic vision. Educational visits to London and Oxford, a vibrant Culture Night, and a dedicated Networking Day created structured opportunities for participants to connect, collaborate, and celebrate diversity.
The Awards Ceremony encapsulated the Olympiad’s organisational strength. Medals were presented by international representatives, cultural performances enriched the celebration, and volunteers, supervisors, and partners were recognised for their contributions. Every detail—from highlight videos to the screening of the Gold Medal‑winning short film—was carefully orchestrated to showcase achievement and unity.
IGO 2026 reaffirmed its role as a meticulously organised ecosystem where innovation, education, and cultural exchange intersect. By combining rigorous planning with inclusivity, the Olympiad continues to empower young changemakers and strengthen its position as a global leader in youth innovation events.
