MILSET Europe  Programmes

The MILSET Expo-Sciences Europe (ESE) aim is promoting scientific projects created by children and young people around the world through an exhibition in a multi-cultural environment, also allowing the participation of institutions which want to assist young people in their projects.
The programme of the ESE consists of a variety of activities: the exhibition of projects, cultural and scientific visits, leisure activities, workshops, animation and conferences.

Participation at ESE is an opportunity to

  • Install and animate a space to highlight youngsters’, teachers’ and leaders’ efforts and interest in research, science and technology innovation, enhancing their motivation while contributing to their personal development.
  • Establish relationships with other institutions with similar goals through the development of scientific, technical and social projects in order to exchange ideas and create actions according to the needs of today’s world, for the benefit of industry, the educational sector and society at large.
  • Be represented at an international level through the young peoples’ projects, allowing for the spreading of knowledge amongst the main target audience (i.e. young people).
  • Promote Scientific Culture in a multi-cultural environment, allowing the sharing of experience and good practice as well as to achieve higher-standard scientific activities.

A Young Torches for Science activity.

The European Science Day for Youth (ESDY) is an event hapening simultaneously mid-March all over Europe.

During one day, youngsters develop activities around an topic which includes different dimensions such as youth, science & technology, creativity, discovery and education.

Some experiments, scientific cards, quizz, ideas, etc. are designed and provided online having everybody invited to contribute to it.

The participants are invited to take photos and videos of the event and share them through the ESDY website. The last Thursday of April, the topic activities are organized all over Europe in schools, youth clubs, etc.

OBJECTIVES

  • Show that science is fun

  • Serve as an example of youth’s interest in science and research

  • Stimulate youth’s decision capabilities and creativity

  • Promote youth and interschool cooperation

  • Enforce a European identity among young people

A Young Torches for Science activity.

ISSC bring together a group of young people -usually about 60- for a week to learn and discover science around a topic. This also allows the participants to learn about different cultures and ideas and doing science linking theory with a practical approach.

MILSET Europe is working with a national organiser to have ISSC held every year in a new country.

Objectives

  • Expose and learn new ideas in different fields of science.
  • Share an incredible adventure with youngsters from all over Europe
  • Discover new cities, countries and cultures

Interested to host ISSC? Take a look at the calls.

Take part in a real-life rocket campaign. Where the sun doesn’t set. Surrounded by some of the brightest minds from around the world.

Sound too good to be true? Think again. Welcome to European Space Camp, where all of the above is possible and lots more besides.

European Space Camp enables students between the ages of 17 and 20 to take control of every aspect of a rocket campaign, including circuit making, telemetry and of course the launch itself, under the supervision of some of Europe’s best rocket scientists. The camp lasts one week at the Andøya Rocket Range in Norway, the northernmost permanent launch facility in the world. Participants are also privileged enough to listen to lectures on topics ranging from Rocket Physics to the Northern Lights from some of Europe’s best scientists.

However, it’s not all work and no play! There are a whole host of social activities organised throughout the week including swimming in the midnight ocean, a GPS treasure hunt and going on a whale safari.

Applicants should be fluent in English and have a passion for Space and Rocket Physics. A strong grasp of Mathematics and Physics is highly desirable.

A Young Torches for Science group of activities.

Youth Congresses bring together a large group of young people for a few days to develop
and exchange on a particular topic during workshops, lectures debates, visits, etc.. They are
often connected with an international event giving a place for the voice of youth.

Objectives

  • Give the possibility to youngsters to exchange ideas
  • Offer a youth message for international events
  • Develop youth involvement and opinion
  • Discover different cities, countries & cultures

A Youth Science Factory programme.

Science Youth Vectors programme aims to establish close partnership based relations between different organisations involved in youth science and technology activity and to stimulate collaboration between them in different fields and on different projects. It is a platform, where any organisation affiliated to MILSET could propose the idea of a new interesting project and look for partner organisations in other countries.

Science Youth Vectors programme includes projects as short-term bilateral events where children from two different countries meet together to complete a project in a certain field of science. Such a form of cooperative activity is most useful for developing the children intellectual, emotional and moral potential and one of the best ways to attract them to science and technology.

If you have an idea of a joint project which could be realized by children teams from two courties and you need a partner organization to make it real, if you are looking for some other kind of partnership (fund raising, exchange programmes, etc.) just fill in the project card :-)

Main steps of a project

  • Filling in the project form on the MILSET website
  • Searching for a partner
  • Looking  for funds
  • Designing a joint programme
  • Working at the project
  • Running the project
  • Presenting the results

The Science Tourism team offers you an idea to start and set up direct ties between your organizations: Science Tours!

  • A brand new kind of tourism
  • Explore new cultures, see new horizons in science
  • Establish new international ties
  •  Give your students an experience they will remember for Lifetime

It is widely known that tourism is a very important branch of economics. People travel to recreate or to learn something new. Usually, this last goal includes the acquaintance with the history, art and architecture of the visited country or city. But why not add the scientific world to all that? Why not visit universities, scientific and research institutes, science museums, where scientific knowledge is preserved, communicated from generation to generation and multiplied. Young people should learn about this world the way they learn about the culture of the place where they go on tour. They also should know that the world of science is a part of the whole.

That’s why we suggest a new kind of tourism for children and young people - Science Tours.

Science Tours - tours to the most scientifically prominent places of the country: universities, science institutes, centres and museums.

Science Tours - tours that besides sightseeing have a large study part in their programs, that include lectures and workshops, lab, archive or field research. It is very important that the knowledge that children obtain during the Science Tour is transmitted by those who create this knowledge immediately (the teacher in the school also transmits the knowledge, but they themselves don’t create it).

If you want to have really unforgettable science holidays for your students or if you want and can organize a science tour for foreign students in your country, please fill in the form We will help you to find a partner.

The „Technisch-Ökoligisches Projektzentrum Rabutz“ (Technical and Environmental Project Center) in the near of Leipzig in Saxony is a youth organisation with a wide range of non-formal education since 1996. It’s a place for children and young people to create their own scientific projects and to gain experience in technical processes.

On 4th May 2010, it has officially been named by MILET Europe as the "European Youth Competence Center for Renewable Energies" aiming at acting as a booster for the development of activities on renewable energies for the whole Europe.

In the beginning, there was a small village with 54 inhabitants and only one small electric racecar…

…today you can find:

  • a „Young Enterprise company” organizing the racing team - also responsible for engineering, funding, cooperation with commercial partners, coordinate international projects and public relation
  • a youth centre with non-formal educational standards. Among engineering, mathematics and physics the focus regarding the workgroups lies on the environment and renewable energies.  Learning-by-doing as an educational strategy
  • a race track, whose infrastructure base exclusively on renewable energy (photovoltaic and wind energy)
  • a place for practical training, seminars, bi-, tri- and multilateral youth exchanges

The „Technisch-Ökoligisches Projektzentrum Rabutz“ works on the following principles:

  • Learning is fun –  children and young people are more motivated to acquire knowledge
  • project-oriented leisure education, promoting initiative and personal responsibility of children and young people
  • Using of synergy effects through cooperation with business, industry and communities
  • impart knowledge about the requirements of the fast-moving developments in science, technology and economy to future students and apprentices in addition to the school.

When young citizens turn into "reporters"

At home in Europe

Each year within the EU, 150 000 Erasmus students take the initiative to cross the borders of their country to make their way toward other horizons. These "border-crossing" students decided one day to act as "citizen-reporters". Through their video reportages, shot in member countries of the European Union, they are our eyes and ears taking off to meet with our European civil society. Here, in a few images, the narratives of these "out of the ordinary" reporters.
