MILSET Young Citizens Conference at ESI 2025
The MILSET Young Citizens Conference (YCC) was successfully held during the MILSET Expo-Sciences International 2025, bringing together more than 60 young participants from 26 countries for an inspiring programme of dialogue, collaboration, and action.
YCC provides a unique global platform where young people can share their perspectives on the social implications of science and technology. Through this initiative, participants are encouraged to reflect critically on global challenges and take an active role in shaping a more responsible and sustainable future.
The 2025 edition focused on the theme “The Green Economy,” inviting participants to explore how societies can use resources responsibly while balancing economic development and environmental sustainability. During three hours of dynamic activities, participants engaged in discussions across nine thematic tables, supported by two expert talks from NASA specialists who shared insights on resource recovery and reuse technologies used in space missions.
Following the YCC methodology of Concerns, Discussion, and Actions, participants examined key topics including education and awareness, balancing economy and ecology, global cooperation, and technological innovation. Through teamwork and intercultural exchange, they developed creative solutions and shared practical recommendations to address sustainability challenges.
The conference concluded with the presentation of a set of proposed actions, highlighting priorities such as accelerating the transition to renewable energy, improving recycling infrastructure, promoting circular water systems, encouraging green innovation and funding, adopting smart city technologies, and strengthening global cooperation for sustainable development.
The YCC at ESI 2025 once again demonstrated the power of youth collaboration and dialogue, reaffirming that young people are key actors in advancing science, technology, and innovation for the benefit of society and the planet.
