Africa Science Buskers Festival Celebrates 10 Years of Inspiring Young Innovators
The Africa Science Buskers Festival 2026 brought together a new generation of young scientists, innovators and creators in Harare, Zimbabwe, for two inspiring days dedicated to science, technology and creativity.
This year marked a particularly significant milestone as the Africa Science Buskers Festival celebrated its 10th anniversary, recognising a decade of encouraging young people to explore science in dynamic, creative and engaging ways.
More than 350 young innovators from 21 countries came together on 30 and 31 July to share their ideas, knowledge and talent through live science storytelling, problem-solving prototypes, hands-on demonstrations and coding activities.
The Festival once again demonstrated how science can go beyond laboratories and classrooms, becoming a powerful tool for communication, collaboration and engagement among young people from different countries and cultures.
A decade of science, creativity and youth engagement
Over the past ten years, the Africa Science Buskers Festival has created opportunities for young people to communicate scientific concepts in original and accessible ways while developing essential skills such as creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork.
The 2026 edition continued this mission by providing a platform where participants could not only present what they had learned, but also interact, exchange experiences and discover different approaches to science and technology.
Activities including science busking, innovative prototypes and the Coding Jamboree highlighted the diversity of talent represented at the Festival and the growing role of young people in shaping Africa's scientific and technological future.
